Rachel Gregg

I feel most at home amidst nature. Art and photography is a way for me to express through authentic observation, the deep connection I feel to wild places and the curious, often fragile species that inhabit them, human or otherwise.

My inclination for drawing was likely inherited from my artistic father and instinct for photography from my great grandfather; a portrait photographer in the early to mid 1900s. Yet it was his granddaughter, my intuitive mother who embraced my appetite for both. With a constant supply of art materials and books she cultivated in me an endless fascination with illustrated stories. And when she allowed me use of her analogue camera in my early teens, I became infatuated with immortalising the essence of being and the shadows in between.

My journey has been a culmination of experiences within the performing arts, visual arts, arts administration, animal rescue/rehabilitation and motherhood.

Artworks and illustrations are created with pencil, pen and watercolour.

Sharing a tiny cottage with my partner, daughter and numerous companion animals, I feel incredibly fortunate to live under the vast skies of the Southern Highlands, NSW, Australia, respectfully acknowledging that we are on irreplaceable Gundungurra land.
